BOOK SYNOPSIS
Misconceptions have stalked Andrew Cole like a hatchet-man defender determined to cut him down to size. Now, in his candid and inspirational autobiography, Cole finally puts his side of the story.
In the world of modern-day football, his reserved demeanour, combined with belief in his own ability, was often interpreted as an attitude problem that overshadowed his natural aptitude for goalscoring. He was viewed as a one-man awkward squad by the likes of George Graham and Jimmy Hill, before Kevin Keegan identified him as the man to bring goals to Newcastle.
It was only when Alex Ferguson took him to Manchester United in 1995 that Cole began to shake of his image, amassing goals, medals and England caps. Now, two decades on from United's historic Treble, he not only gives the inside track on Eric Cantona, Roy Keane, Dwight Yorke and other players from that illustrious era, but also opens up about his fractious relationship with Teddy Sheringham and reveals the prejudices and preconceptions he had to contend with during his twenty years in the game.
Despite all his sporting success, however, Andrew Cole's greatest challenge arose far from the football field when a viral infection led to a kidney transplant in 2017. The struggle to survive the illness and the depression that followed has forced him to take a step back and re-evaluate the priorities in his life.
Compelling in its honesty and frankness, Fast Forward is the thought-provoking story of one man's determination to succeed and survive against all odds.
