BOOK SYNOPSIS

Few names stir as much excitement in the minds of sports fans as that of Kevin Pietersen. Even people who don't know cricket, know him. The off-spinner turned batsman from South Africa arrived in the UK in 2000 and imprinted himself on the nations sporting consciousness five years later with one memorable innings at the Oval, in England's glorious Ashes summer. Since then, he has gone on to play some of the most audacious innings ever seen in the game, with an abundance of flair and adventurousness that has made him one of the country's most entertaining cricketers.

Yet as much as he's been lauded for his performances on the pitch, KP has been dogged by controversy off it. And on 7th of February 2014, a month after returning from an Ashes white wash in Australia in which he was nonetheless his team's leading run-scorer, it was announced that he would not be included in the England squad for the teams next two tours. The news left commentators and fans alike scratching their heads. And until now, the events that occurred behind the scenes in the lead-up to that series have remained shrouded in secrecy. KP: The Autobiography lifts the lid on the whole story, replacing rumour and speculation with the truth.

KP is the only English player to have been named Man of the Tournament at the World Cup, when the team won the World Twenty20 in 2010. He's the fastest player ever to reach 7,000 Test runs. And he's the highest run-scorer in English cricketing history. This book presents an unparalleled insight into his mind - why he plays the shot he plays, what he feels when he's facing some of the most aggressive bowling attacks ever seen, how he manages the doubts and insecurities that have threatened to derail him, and what inspires him.

Honest, fascinating and as gripping as any one of KP's most memorable knocks, it's the book sports fans have been waiting for.

OUR REVIEW

This was one of the first ever autobiographies that I purchased and being a cricket lover and very much invested in the Kevin Pietersen saga, I was eager to get stuck into this and is a big part of why I found a love for sports books that has manifested into this site.

I was very much in the non-KP camp and this book very much enforced my views at the time and made the book one of those that you didn't want to put down. Thankfully my views have softened since and I am able to look book on the quite staggering career that KP had and remember the maverick cricketer for who he was on the cricket field.

If you're after fantastic anecdotes from some of the most iconic games in recent England cricket history, you've come to the right place. If you're after drama and confrontation, a bit if stubbornness from various parties and maverick entertainment, this book will give you all of that.

In hindsight, the book is very much a look back on one of England's most entertaining cricketers, a man that was often misunderstood because of his will to be the best but remains a truly iconic part of the Three Lions story, making it a must read for every cricket fan, across the world.

This is very much in the top 5 cricket autobiographies written, making it a must for cricket fans everywhere!
