BOOK SYNOPSIS

Among the best golfers in the world ,Phil Mickelson is one of the most compelling figures in sport. At the 2021 PGA Championship, at the age of 50, Mickelson became the oldest player in history to win a major championship.

In this raw and unauthorised biography, Alan Shipnuck captures a singular life defined by thrilling victories, crushing defeats and countless controversies. Mickelson is a multi-faceted character, and all his warring impulses are on display in these pages: he is a smart-ass who built an empire on being the consummate professional; a loving husband dogged by salicious rumours; a high-stakes gambler who knows the house always wins but can't tear himself away.

In this updated edition, Shipnuck delivers numerous revelations, from the true scale of Mickelson's massive gambling losses to the secretive backstory of the Saudi golf league that Mickelson championed. But Phil also celebrates Mickelson's random acts of kindness to which friends and strangers alike can attest.

Phil is the juiciest and liveliest golf book in years - full of heart, humour and unexpected turns.

OUR REVIEW

This is a superb book for golf fans, particularly those that like me, are fascinated by the current golfing landscape that looks increasingly like it will remain in limbo for the foreseeable future. It also is a fantastic insight into one of the most loved and loathed golfers, we have ever seen. Phil Mickelson is marmite, you'll either love him or hate him.

For those that love him, you will hear the stories of his kindness that he has possessed over the years and how he has given back to the game. For those that hate him, you're probably unlikely to be able to get past his recent links to the Saudi regime and its Human Rights issues and that is where you are stuck, without even looking into his gambling problems that have occurred in the past.

But Phil's life isn't just about his kindness or his links to Saudi Arabia, he is a damned good golfer, one of the best of the modern era and was the antidote to perhaps the greatest golfer we have ever seen, Tiger Woods. Their rivalry spawned a generation that Woods very much got the better off, but Mickelson had his moments and he was universally loved until recently.

This book delves into the life of Phil Mickelson, what drove him, his love for the game, his love for his family but also how he wanted the game to reach a wider global audience. It has been cleverly written by the Author Alan Shipnuck, a renowned golf journalist. Though the book is unauthorised by Phil, it's clear that he knows all the intricacies, stories and rumours surrounding Phil and this makes the book a must read for golf fans that are fascinated by the game in general but mostly about Phil and delving into his life.

Grab yourself a copy of this book, its a great read and will give you a great insight into a modern great of the golfing world.
